چکیده
Studies focusing on the spatial ecology of Red Kite (Milvus milvus) during breeding season are scarce, despite this having major importance in its conservation. Spain has one largest populations species, but it is very threatened country. Here, 28 Kites were tagged with GPS satellite transmitters to study movements adults (March-June), evaluating differences according sex, and investigating habitat selection. The area used by females was smaller than males (95% KDE = 4.48 vs. 3.30 km2). Females also traveled less distance per hour remained closer nest. Thus, had a higher frequency locations at distances <250 m from nest, while >1 km. Distances recorded >5 km scarce for both sexes, maximum reached usually (61% seasons) 15 Both sexes increased between 1–3 central hours day. mainly areas occupied non-irrigated arable land, forests, scrubs, herbaceous vegetation. selection certain types crops highlights agroforestry landscape conservation species. On other hand, we documented first time how part Spanish population short-distance migrant within Iberian Peninsula makes post-breeding summer.

Acute poisoning of Red Kites (Milvus milvus) in France: data from the Sagir network.
Red Kites (Milvus milvus) are avian scavengers limited to Europe, and they currently are listed as an endangered species worldwide. Accidental poisoning is often listed as one of the threats to Red Kites throughout their range of distribution. The purpose of this article is to investigate the suspected poisoning cases reported to the French Wildlife Disease Surveillance System. Dead animals are...
متن کاملConservation of the Red Kite Milvus milvus (Aves: Accipitriformes) Is Not Affected by the Establishment of a Broad Hybrid Zone with the Black Kite Milvus migrans migrans in Central Europe
Among Accipitriformes sensu stricto, only a few species have been reported to form hybrid zones; these include the red kite Milvus milvus and black kite Milvus migrans migrans. M. milvus is endemic to the western Palearctic and has an estimated total population of 20-24,000 breeding pairs. The species was in decline until the 1970s due to persecution and has declined again since the 1990s due t...
متن کاملWidespread supplementary feeding in domestic gardens explains the return of reintroduced Red Kites Milvus milvus to an urban area
Reintroductions are commonly used to mitigate biodiversity loss. One prominent example is that of the Red Kite Milvus milvus, a charismatic raptor of conservation concern. This species has been reintroduced across the UK over the last 25 years following its near extinction after centuries of persecution. The species was not expected to recolonize urban areas; its historical association with hum...

Prioritizing species conservation: does the Cape Verde kite exist?
The Cape Verde kite (Milvus milvus fasciicauda) is considered to be one of the rarest birds of prey in the world and at significant risk of extinction. For this reason there is great interest in both the taxonomic and the population status of this group. To help resolve its taxonomic status, we provide phylogenetic analyses based on three mitochondrial genes for a sampling of kites in the genus...
